Overview. This advanced course is designed to help students develop creative approaches to problem-solving that focus on identifying optimal real estate solutions that reflect sensitivity to the perspectives of space users, space producers, and market facilitators. The course covers the three basic types of real estate decisions students are likely to encounter in their professional practices including: a site in search of a use; a use in search of a site; and an investor in search of an opportunity. While students will learn how to customize each feasibility study to address the goals and objectives of a particular client or constituency, they will also learn how to develop a research program that will approach such decisions in a disciplined manner to identify optimal solutions and to manage risk. Students will also develop an appreciation for the inputs that must be tapped from related disciplines (e.g., legal, environmental, financial, architectural) to ensure that conclusions are physically practical and economically viable.
Positioning. This is a required upper level course that draws heavily on the core real estate offerings as well as on market analysis and spatial analytical techniques.
