Katlin Jackson, MSRE '11, has founded a start-up social enterprise called Haiti Babi, which creates fair-wage jobs for mothers in Haiti, empowering them to care for their children. The moms take pride in creating beautiful, soft, handmade baby blankets for sale around the world.
They believe that empowerment through economic development is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

They have launched their first major crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo. Watch the video

In the past year, they have set up a Haitian office with a nonprofit partner, hired and trained our first four Haitian employees, and won two start-up business awards. They have great momentum, but there is still much more to be done.
