Current Students

Dear Students,

jim delisleIt is with great pride that I take this opportunity to welcome our first new Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) students to campus. At the same time, I would like to welcome the new graduate students pursuing our Specialization in Real Estate, as well as welcome returning students in our two-year program back to campus.

These are exciting times for real estate education at the University of Washington. Indeed, this quarter we have experienced record enrollment in our courses, drawing students from across campus to join our real estate cohorts. This intermingling of students, along with our interdisciplinary approach to real estate, is one of our competitive advantages and one that we have worked carefully to nurture and successfully execute.  These are also challenging times on a number of fronts ranging from the major cyclical downturn that is rippling through our industry with significant downside risk ahead of us, to the heightened awareness of the importance of creating sustainable real estate solutions that has spread across the industry.

We believe the challenges the industry will have to address before the market turmoil subsides punctuate the importance of a solid, academically rigorous, applied specialized real estate education.   That is our core strength.  We are looking forward to helping you become future industry leaders who can help elevate the discipline to the next level and. At the same time, we want to help you launch successful, sustainable careers that will endure future challenges.  Indeed, if achieve our goals, we will empower you to help prevent them from occurring in the first place.

So, a hardy welcome to campus and an open invitation for alumni and friends of the program to get connected, to help us achieve our goal in establishing a prototypical real estate program that can serve as a model for others, both here and abroad. I also offer a heartfelt thanks to those who gave so much to help us get to this point in the evolution of our program some of whom have left us, and some of whom remain very much a part of our extended academic/professional team.

Sincerely,

James R. DeLisle, Ph.D.
